General Information
Amnesty International founded in 1961, is an organization based on worldwide voluntary membership and it shall consist of sections, structures, international networks, affiliated groups and international members. Amnesty International’s vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments. It forms a global community of human rights defenders with the principles of international solidarity, effective action for the individual victim, global coverage, the universality and indivisibility of human rights, impartiality and independence, and democracy and mutual respect. The reason for making a branch of Amnesty International in Turkey was to expand the work for human rights in Turkey.
Mission and Objectives

Amnesty International’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights.

Main Projects / Activities

Amnesty International addresses governments, intergovernmental organizations, armed political groups, companies and other non-state actors.
AI seeks to disclose human rights abuses accurately, quickly and persistently. It systematically and impartially researches the facts of individual cases and patterns of human rights abuses. These findings are publicized, and members, supporters and staff mobilize public pressure on governments and others to stop the abuses.
In addition to its work on specific abuses of human rights, AI urges all governments to observe the rule of law, and to ratify and implement human rights standards; it carries out a wide range of human rights educational activities; and it encourages intergovernmental organizations, individuals, and all organs of society to support and respect human rights.
Our members and supporters exert influence on governments, political bodies, companies and intergovernmental groups.
Activists take up human rights issues by mobilizing public pressure through mass demonstrations, vigils and direct lobbying as well as online and offline campaigning.
Addition to these Amnesty International's campaign to Stop Violence Against Women(SVAW):
•Pushes for the implementation of existing laws that guarantee access to justice and services for women subjected to violence including rape and other forms of sexual violence
•Calls for new laws to be enacted that will protect women's human rights
•Demands an end to laws that discriminate against women
•Urges the ending of violence against women perpetrated by a state and its agents
•Works to empower women
